  Few people know that improvisation in classical music was common place well before jazz. Today classical improvisation is an obsolete art due to regimented conservatory instruction tied to notation. One of the purposes of this CD is to contribute to reviving the art of classical improvisation. My improvisational focus is on tuning into a composer and allowing my body, mind, and spirit, to become one with the essential emotional rhythm of their composition. My piano teacher, Sophia Rosoff, described emotional rhythm as an unending pulse that can stretch but never break. When the pianist discovers and entrains with the emotional rhythm it takes over their mind and body and guides their playing. When I improvise the emotional rhythm becomes a flowing stream in which I am able to converse with a composer. During the process the composer may intuitively guide me, or I may just “go off” as part of the conversation. I never know what to expect.
  
  
  The compositions of these recordings are selected from many hours improvisation sessions. For example, I recorded five hours of improvisation of Satie’s Saraband #1. In order to fit them into this CD I use my intuition to choose the improvisations that are presented. I have given the names of the composers and their compositions as a reference point for my intuitive improvisation conversings. For those who may wonder, I am a university trained classical pianist. I have been influenced by John Cage, Franz Kamin, Art Tatum, Bill Evans, Cecil Taylor and the Indian raga teachings of Silvia Nakkach and Steve Gorn.
